Tishomingo State Park Receives National Recognition

Tishomingo State Park was named in Reserve America's "Top 100 Family Campgrounds" Awards Program in addition garnered five "Outdoor Recreation Awards". Bill Brekeen, Park Manager, attended the July meeting of the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks and accepted the awards on behalf of the park.  Tishomingo received recognition for Top 25 Canoeing Spots, Top 50 Educational & Historical Facilities, Top 50 Hiking Trials, Top 50 Scenic Views, and Top 25 Unique Cabins.  In addition, the park was recognized again as the Best Hiking Destination by Mississippi Magazine.  To determine the top campgrounds and locations, over 4,000 parks were reviewed and evaluated on criteria including educational programs, overall beauty and scenery, visitor centers and camping amenities such as hot showers and laundry facilities.  The featured locations were selected based on testimonials, campground ratings, and feedback provided by park rangers, regional park management and campers throughout the year.  "I encourage everyone to visit the park and enjoy the natural beauty that abounds", stated Brekeen.  The park opened up a "new" pool this summer and a scheduled road paving project should be completed by early fall.  The new disc golf course, "Tushka Run", will be in play by the Fall Classic Disc Golf Tournament in October.
