Construction Begins for Expansion of New River Homes
Burnsville, Mississippi. Construction has begun on the expansion of New River Homes. The estimated $600,000 project will provide a 23,500 square foot expansion for the construction of steel frames for manufactured housing. New River Homes LLC started operations in the Burnsville Industrial Park during the first quarter of 2006 and currently employs 230 workers producing manufactured housing. The company is producing five or six manufactured houses per day. The company plans to ramp up production and increase employment to approximately 300 workers within the next 12 months. The company intends to bid on the Katrina cottage contract proposed by the State of Mississippi. New River Homes is owned by Jack and Brad Beard. CEO Jack Beard reported that “we appreciate the support and encouragement of the county and the City of Burnsville. We ask for your continued support as we grow the company and seek additional contracts related to the Katrina recovery effort.” Burnsville Mayor David Nixon reports that “we are delighted to work with the board of supervisors and New River Homes on this expansion. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the Tishomingo County Board of Supervisors in assisting New River Homes to grow.” Tishomingo County Development Foundation Chairman Ken Cooley stated, “New River Homes is another good example of what partnerships can do for Tishomingo County. We applaud the success of the board of supervisors, the City of Burnsville, Yellow Creek Port Authority, and the others involved in this project.” New River Homes is located in the Northeast Mississippi Waterfront Industrial Park with over 900 acres of industrial sites available. A new access road and a barge facility were completed recently and there are plans to build a rail spur into the industrial park. Owned by Yellow Creek Port Authority, the industrial park is located on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and U. S. Highway 72 in Burnsville.
